Classes in World Music and Dance at UI

Unless otherwise indicated, ensembles and group classes are open to students in all branches of the University; they are not reserved for students in the School of Music. Priority is given to registered students; others affiliated with the University are welcome to join classes where the maximum enrollment has not been filled with registered students. Undergraduates should register for Music 252, graduates for Music 450. If registration is full, students should contact the Center to see whether they can be accommodated.

BALINESE GAMELAN - ONLINE

Description: 

GAMELAN KEBYAR – Instructor: I Ketut Gede Asnawa
Music from the Indonesian island of Bali. A gamelan is an orchestra consisting mainly of keyed metallophones, gongs, and drums. Fall 2020 features vocal gamelan with online instruction.  One credit hour. 0300 Music Bldg.

World Dance Forms

Credit: 1 hours
Provides students with the physical study of various world dance forms. Topics reflect specializations of faculty, such as Capoiera, African dance, Balinese dance, and Chinese forms. Prerequisite: Major standing in Dance or consent of instructor. May be repeated in the same term to a maximum of 2 hours. May be repeated in separate terms to a maximum of 8 hours.
