Opening Night Party 2011:

TOSHI REAGON AND BIGLOVELY
VIEUX FARKA TOURÉ
DANIEL LANOIS’ BLACK DUB
RUSS BARENBERG TRIO

Vieux Farka Touré: a “bona fide African rock hero” (NPR). He bristles with “joyful audacity” on the cutting Malian phrases he was raised on and spiraling Clapton-style riffs (The New York Times). His father, the esteemed guitarist Ali Farka Touré, bred the blues into him from the elegant Arabic-inflected traditional rhythms of his homeland. Mentor Toumani Diabaté proffered space for Vieux to ascend globally with borrowings from Jamaican dub, raucous rock, and bluesy jams.
