Turino Family Band live at The Rose Bowl Tavern
Holiday weekend with The Turino Family Band. Saturday, November 27th. No cover. Tips appreciated. BYOFood.

Matt (fiddle, guitar, feet, and vocals) and Tom (banjo, accordions, fiddle, and vocals) have been playing string band, Cajun, and original tunes together for thirty years--since Matt was seven. Around Urbana-Champaign they have been part of the Squeezetones, The Cornstalkers, and the touring contra dance band, Euphor, as well as playing as a duo.

After moving to Kentucky, Tom teamed up with his wife Shannon (guitar, vocals, triangle) to form the core of various bands playing old time and Cajun music. Meanwhile Matt and his partner Claire Johnson (fiddle) began performing in the sterling string trio, Meadow Hawk. They also take great pleasure playing together whenever the family gets together, as on this Thanksgiving weekend at the Rosebowl!

Diwali Celebration is one of the most celebrated events around the world. Diwali, otherwise known as the festival of lights, is celebrated in Autumn. The holiday signifies the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. The festival activities and rituals typically extend over a five day period. Hindus dress up in their best outfits, light small clay lamps and participate in prayers to goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of fertility, wealth and prosperity. Diwali is a major holiday in South Asia, and celebrated by 3 million people in the USA.

The Asian American Cultural Center partners with University of Illinois dining in presenting an annual Diwali-themed dinner, which includes traditional South Asian food and desserts, and encourages student groups to perform as well as interact with students about the holiday as well.
