together in concert

These groups both represent a unique commitment to innovation in performance, and their combined presentation promises to be a memorable event. This concert is made possible through a grant from the Urbana Arts Grant Program.

compostQ is a music & dance collective of considerable depth and experience, presenting concerts that unite improvisation and composition in a blend that insures exciting, one-of-a-kind performances that have received strong, positive responses from audiences in New York City, Chicago, St. Louis, and elsewhere. The group includes violinist Dorothy Martirano, Chinese zither virtuoso Yu-Chen Wang, trombonist Erik Lund, accordionist Chris Reyman, bassist Armand Beaudoin, together with dancers Kirstie Simson and Tamin Totzke.

OddMusic Urbana-Champaign was founded in 2009 by Jacob Barton and Andrew Heathwaite, in an attempt to make a single project out of their rapidly multiplying musical compositional interests, which include microtonality, computer programming, instrument building, writing, teaching, design, composition of daily life, and foraging for consequences. For this performance OddMusic will perform as "The Enslins," and will include Jacob Barton, Andrew Heathwaite, and Austin McCann.

Members of the Tartan Terrors have performed on four different continents for guests including President Bill Clinton and Queen Elizabeth II. Their music is streaming for on-demand listening in multiple international podcasts, including a coveted spot on Pulse of the Planet in Spain.

This is a Doudna Fine Arts Center New and Emerging Artist Series program.
