The milonga is the tango social dance. Tango Society milongas are held about 15-18 times per year, usually at the Phillips Recreation Center of the Urbana Park District (505 W Stoughton, Urbana IL), at an interval of 2-3 weeks when the University of Illinois is in session, less frequently at other times.
We model our milongas at the Phillips Center in Urbana - our Milonga del Corazon - after the milongas held in the neighborhood clubs ('clubes del barrio') in Buenos Aires, Argentina - the birthplace of tango and tango capital of the world. We have a friendly social club environment where people know each other and newcomers are warmly welcomed.
