Indonesian Performing Arts Chicago Joining Local Gamelan Concert

Fall 2011 Gamelan Concert

A gala concert of Balinese gamelan music, dance, and dance-drama will be presented on Sunday, December 4th at 3pm by the Robert E. Brown Center for World Music on the third floor of the Levis Faculty Center.

 

Four gamelan groups will be featured in the program, including the Bali Lantari Ensemble accompanying a troupe of 30 guest dancers from Indonesian Performing Arts Chicago in an episode from the Ramayana in which the monkey-general Hanuman rescues Rama's wife Sita from the evil king Rahwana.  Also performing are students from Booker T. Washington Elementary School in Champaign, the University of Illinois student gamelan and the  Community Balinese Gamelan.
