CWM ARTISTS OPEN KRANNERT ART MUSEUM'S OPENSTUDIO PROGRAM

On Thursday, January 27, 2011, the Krannert Art Museum kicked off its OPENSTUDIO program, and Center for World Music artists and associates provided the music. OPENSTUDIO is "a series of public programs in conjunction with artist residencies intended to forge interdisciplinary learning and cultural exchange between students, faculty, the community, and international visiting artists." A key element of the program is the Speaker Project, an installation by the Chicago artist Juan Angel Chávez, consisting of a large box-like sculpture that also serves as a performance stage. Two CWM ensembles will played inside the Speaker Box at the KAM opening: the Balinese Gamelan Angklung, directed by I Ketut Gede Asnawa, and the Adzido Drum Club, which performs percussion music of the Ewe people of southeastern Ghana.
