Special Guest Dancer in Fall Gamelan Concert

The Robert E. Brown Center for World Music is pleased to present a special performance featuring guest dancer I Gusti Ngurah Kertayuda, who joins our student and community Balinese Gamelan ensembles on Sunday, December 10, 1:30pm in the Music Building Auditorium, located at 1114 W. Nevada Street, Urbana. Admission is free.

A graduate of the national High School for the Performing Arts (KOKAR) in Denpasar, I Gusti Ngurah Kertayuda has been teaching and performing traditional and modern dance and gamelan since the 1970’s. He has been presented extensively throughout Indonesia and internationally in Europe, North Africa, East and Southeast Asia. Since his relocation to the United States in 1989, he served as the artistic and choreographic director for the Indonesian Consulate General of Chicago, where he continues to teach Indonesian traditional and modern dance and gamelan.

The Balinese Gamelan ensembles at the University of Illinois are directed by I Ketut Gede Asnawa. Our community gamelan dancers are instructed by Putu Oka Mardiani Asnawa.
