Big Klezmer and Yiddish Music Jam and Workshop

Calling all instrumentalists and singers! No previous experience is necessary. Kids and adults from any background are welcome (kids should be accompanied by a responsible adult). We invite everyone to participate, regardless of vocal or instrumental level, previous experience, background or knowledge. In addition to the jam session, the afternoon will include a workshop section for experienced musicians. This will be an opportunity to dig deeper into klezmer style, repertoire and rhythms at a more advanced level. Free will donations greatly appreciated.

This event is part of a residency featuring luminaries Jeff Warschauer and Deborah Strauss over President’s Day weekend, February 16-19, 2017 in C-U. As part of their activities, the Program in Jewish Culture and Society and the Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center are sponsoring a lecture and musical demonstration titled “Klezmer Music: From Old World to New” on Thursday, February 16th, at 7:00pm in the Music Building Auditorium. It’s a rare opportunity to have this duo here – they are in the top tier of today’s klezmer/Yiddish music scene and have performed many places around the world.
