Support The Center

Programs of the Robert E. Brown Center for World Music are dependent upon grants, gifts, and funds raised through concerts, performances and services. The Center was established at the University of Illinois on the basis of two acts of generosity: the donation of Indonesian gamelan orchestras and other instruments from the Estate of Robert E. Brown, and seed money from the University’s Office of the Provost and the School of Music. These funds enabled us to transport the instruments from the California estate, outfit a teaching space, hire a director and visiting artists, and get the program started. If we are to continue to share music of the world’s cultures—engaging visiting artists from myriad traditions, acquiring the instruments they need to teach their music, presenting concerts, lectures, and workshops, and sending our artists out into the schools as they strive to enrich their curricula, we will need the support of alumni and friends who see the importance of our efforts to bring awareness of the richness of the world’s performing arts to the University and our community.
