SPICMACAY UIUC in association with The Illini Union Courtyard Cafe is delighted to invite you all to a melodious evening of Carnatic Vocal Recital by Priyanka Prakash. Priyanka Prakash will be accompanied by Prasod Ramachandran on Violin and Athrey Nadhan on Mrudangam.

About the Artist:
Priyanka Prakash is a well-known Classical Vocalist from India, and a disciple of Sangita-Kala-Acharya Vidushi Neela Ramgopal, and a descendant of the great Vidwan of the yesteryears, Palakkad Sri Rama Bhagavathar. She is a seasoned young artiste, having performed over 300 concerts across several states in India and abroad. Some notable performances include at prestigious venues such as the Madras Music Academy, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Kartik Fine Arts, Naada Inbam (Chennai), Gayana Samaja (Bangalore), Shanmukhananda Sabha (Mumbai), Sathguru Samajam (Madurai), Chembai Sangeetolsavam (Guruvayoor), to name a few. She is amongst the Top-11 vocalists chosen from across India to perform at the National Festival Kalavanta 2014. She has been extensively performing during the December Margazhi Festival in Chennai for the past few years, including 12 concerts in December-2014.

Priyanka has won numerous awards and prizes such as the Sri D K Jayaraman Award from Krishna Gana Sabha – Chennai, the MS Subbalakshmi Award (Bhramara Trust, Mysore), TRV Shastri and Dr. Rangaswamy Iyer Prizes (The Music Academy, Madras), Maharajapuram Santhanam Award from Krishna Gana Sabha and the first ever Yuva Nirman Puraskar by the Governor of Karnataka. Her concerts are critically acclaimed by the leading Media Houses. As renowned critic, Mysore Subramanya once wrote, ‘Priyanka Prakash is not a new name to connoisseurs of Bangalore. Being a disciple of veteran musician Neela Ramgopal, she has received a very good training. She writes frequently for leading Art magazines, including Sruti. She was part of the core team that introduced acclaimed cultural festival Svanubhava to Karnataka, working with musician TM Krishna.
