Fall Semester Kick-Off at Japan House!
Demonstration of Large-Scale Calligraphy by Japanese Artist Seiran Chiba in the Japan House Gardens, reception to follow.

Japan House is pleased to welcome back Mr. Michio Ajito, and Ms. Seiran Chiba to Japan House.

Calligrapher Seiran Chiba explores the beauty of the natural world through large-scale calligraphies. Since the great Japanese earthquake and tsunami disaster of 2011, she has been traveling throughout the Fukushima area. In 2013 she became the Fukushima Tourism Ambassador and continues to hold workshops at temporary housing where some of the disaster victims still live. She then travels the world, sharing stories of the beauty and peace that is found, even after extreme disasters such as the one Fukushima experienced. Don't miss this special opportunity.

On Monday, August 25, 2014 at 5:30 p.m., Mr. Michio Ajito, of Fukushima (Mr. Ajito is the CEO of Ajito Group, a charter member of the Sukugawa Rotary Club, and President of the Koriyama Chapter of Chado Urasenke Tankokai) will give a brief talk on the state of Fukushima and its residents since the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster of 2011.

Ms. Chiba will then demonstrate large-scale calligraphy in the gardens of Japan House. Afterward, there will be a reception and opportunity for visitors to try their hand at calligraphy. This event is free and open to all. Please let your friends know about this wonderful way to start the school year!

On Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. there will be a hands-on workshop on large scale calligraphy with Ms. Chiba. No experience is needed and supplies are provided. You will be able to take home your own large calligraphy! This is a rare opportunity to explore large scale calligraphy using the traditional big horsehair brushes. Space is limited to twelve participants so don't hesitate to make a reservation by calling us at 217-244-9934 with your credit card information.
